How Can Peripheral Neuropathy Be Treated?

I have had Peripheral Neuropathy with numbness and no pain since quitting smoking in mid feb this year. My Doctor has said that my PN was caused by prolonged stress and anxiety/nervous tension AND a Heavy 40 year smoking habit. The numbness has improved and quite a bit of tactile sensation has returned although not fully, but there is much intermittent tingling and itchiness going on as well. Are tingling and itchiness a symptom of nerves healing?

Tingling, pin pricking sensation, numbness, shooting pain of the limbs, muscle cramps, slight difficulty in walking are the usual symptoms of peripheral nephropathy of the lower limbs. Do you have Diabetes ? PN is common in a Diabetic. Lumbar disc prolapse with nerve compression is another common cause. However there are medications which will help improve nerve function, like capsule Pregabalin. The dosages of this would be decided by the doctor after assessment of the degree of neuropathy and any other physical ailments and medications you take. Another good therapy to manage PN is with Anodyne treatment. You may please consult your Podiatrist or Neurologist who can advise you on the management afer proper assessment.
