How Can Pancreatitis Be Treated?

I recently had a bout of pancreatitis following an ercp, removal of stones obstructing bile ducts, and removal of gallbladder which contained numerous stones and sludge. I was told that the ercp procedure often results in pancreatitis_I am assuming due to the irritation the procedure may cause to the pancreas. I felt like I had another pancreatitis attack 3 weeks later-severe, sudden pain boring through to the back, shaking, sweating, profuse vomiting for hours and too weak to do anything for next two days. Should I expect to have repeated episodes like this?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Pancreatitis is a recognized complication of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography , it can also be caused by (more commonly) gallstones. Alcohol is another common cause .
Yes , pancreatitis can be recurrent. The symptoms you said are also like that of pancreatitis. So, yes you should immediately move to emergency department to be checked and for the diagnosis. The doctor would also see if this could be anything else simulating pancreatitis.
