How Can Pain In The Heels Be Treated?

I think I have planter fasciitis. The pain in my heal area began hurting Monday. It s the worst pain. The days prior there was no pain and didn t do anything usual to my routine. Since Monday, I ve been stretching my legs and foot. I ve iced it as well. I bought some arch support for fasciitis. Today I put on my dress shoes with the inserts but the one side was very tight fitting. I took out the insert and the one side is still tight fitting. I do believe my foot is swollen now, although it does not look swollen. Help.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Plantar Fasciitis cannot be of such acute onset. If you are having the pain of the feet, with swelling, it could be an inflammation. This could be the cause of this sudden onset of pain which you say is a marked pain. You will, in that case, give rest to the foot, no weight bearing of the foot till the inflammation resolves, and antibiotics. It would be good if you consult a Podiatric surgeon or a General surgeon, who could examine you and after the required investigations, advise you on the management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
