How Can Pain In The Hamstrings And Calf Be Treated?
Hi, I was doing the splits 1 and half a week ago and i think i pulled my hamstring, I heard a loud pop when I went down. I been having pain in my hamstring and a little bit in my calf. I can t stretch my leg like I m used to, or do exercises where the leg goes in extension. How long can I expect to be like this? What should I avoid doing? I ve been doing RICE and foam rolling.
In a stage of acute muscle spasm, active exercises are usually not recommended from a medical perspective.
My guidelines at present
- heating pad application 3-4 times a day for 5 minutes each time
- intake of analgesic and anti-inflammatory drug as ibuprofen if no history of drug sensitivity
- local application of analgesic spray containing diclofenac and menthol
- hydration with plenty of liquids.
Consult your doctor as per the need.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel,
General & Family Physician
