How can pain in the ankle due to an injury be treated?

I broke my tibia and fibula 3.15.15 and had a plate and 8 screws put in. Had them taken out after a year and still have pain in my ankle. Bad pain. My orthopedic surgeon said my fracture went into the joint... what are my options? I am not a candidate for the injections said 1 pain management doctor so my surgeon is going to give me a hydrocortisone injection in a few weeks. What if it does not help? What are my next steps?

Hydrocortisone injection is most likely to help in your case if injury to your joint might have caused inflammation leading to persistent pain. Do get the injections and we can choose about further options depending upon response.
If the response is poor and if the X rays shows any malalignment of bones near joint, we can go for corrective surgery. So for now, let's wait and watch out for the response. Hope this helps. Thanks.
