How Can Pain Around The Eyes Due To Temporal Arteritis Be Treated?

My 90 y/o mother has temporal arteritis and is finishing a long stent of steroids and has no relief in the pain/pressure around the eyes. She has HTN and hx of afib, EF 60, and hypothyroidism, a quite health lady. She visited the ED due to orbital pain and was put on pain medication, PRN. Is there another course of treatment/medication that may diminish the pain and tension that may be safer than narcotics. A fall is of great concern with the narcotic.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for the consult.

Brief answer,
Pain killers with muscle relaxants are required.

Detailed explanation,
1. I read your query and I am happy to help you. you mentioned that your mother had diagnosed with temporal arthritis and already took course of Steroid Treatment.
2. You big concern is that still after treatment with steroids the pain around the eye is not decreased significantly.
3. To release pain and tension around the eye ball I suggest to take Tab.Aceclo -MR once daily or twice a day based on the pain.
4. Don't go for narcotics even if they reduce pain faster than pain killers.

Hope this information helps you.
