How Can Pain And Swelling In The Thumb Knuckle Be Treated?

Hi, I cut the outside edge of my thumb knuckle 3-4 days ago. It is extremely painful now, and my thumb is swollen by around 50% from above the knuckle down to the base. The bones down to my wrist ache and the rest of my hand is beginning to ache. My thumb is very stiff and I cannot bend it. The small cut has almost fully scabbed over but there is hardness around it. Before the scab formed completely yesterday I struck it accidentally and a small amount of puss leaked out. Will it heal on its own?
