How Can Pain And Swelling In The Ankle And Shin Be Treated?

I fell down some stairs 3 days ago (probably 3 or 4, it was dark and I couldn t see) landed on a cement slab. My ankle twisted when I fell and is sore and swollen. I ve been babying it but my shin (which hit the cement, all skinned up) is getting more and more sore. When I put any weight on it (and when it s resting) my shin hurts a lot more than my ankle does. It is swollen to the point my skin feels tight. It is also red and warm to the touch. Does this sound like anything I should be concerned with or just a good bit of bruising? no visible bruises, just some scrapes, maybe internal bruising?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I think first you should do an X-ray of the injury site because you may be have a broken bone. Meanwhile, take rest, elevate limb, take Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen for pain. Put on ice compresses.

Hope I have answered your query.
