Hi,

Congestion around the heart or heart failure (heart not able to supply blood to the body as it should), would normally be associated with shortness of breath, change in the heart rate, change in blood pressure. At the hospital , they may have done an EKG and blood tests.

There are certain blood tests that can check for a heart attack, if these were done and they were normal then a heart attack is not likely. The EKG would have looked at the heart rate and heart rhythm, it can also determine if there are areas of the heart that are not getting enough blood or areas that are too large.

If this is normal, this means that the heart was beating okay and appeared relatively normal in size and blood supply. If the medication they gave you helps with the pain this also reduces the chance that the heart is involved because this is not heart medication. It is not used to help anyone with heart disease.

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
