Addiction Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Ok. First, someone has to want to actually change alcohol intake. Second, stopping or slowing down can cause fatal seizures and should be done under supervision. often in the hospital.

Third, there are a number of options that are helpful. There are medications that improve success somewhat (about 25% more success). there are meetings that are slightly more successful.

Mainly. avoid having alcohol around. avoid the triggers for drinking. Relabel the feelings of cravings and withdrawal into positive goods (having more energy for example).

Then bringing the family into the process generally helps.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
