General Surgeon 's  Response
In a Diabetic, numbness of the feet and legs indicate nuropathy. A 'nerve conduction test', will diagnose it and the severity of nuropathy can be assessed. If Gabapentin is not effective, then the next generation medication capsule Lyrica can help. The Podiatric surgeon or the neurologist can advise you on the dosage of the medication. Another therapy for this problem is 'Anodyne Therapy'. Each sitting is of 40 minutes, and 12 to 14 continuous sittings help give good relief for nuropathic discomfort. Please keep the skin of your feet soft by using a skin softner like Vaseline, and please use soft, pressure distributing insoled foot wear, materials like Poron, Silicon, Plastazote, E.V.A are appropriate.
