How Can Numbness And Pain In The Left Shoulder Be Treated?
I just slipped on ice and fell hard onto my driveway on my left shoulder/arm. In the hour since, I’m experiencing a combination of coldness, numbness, tingling and pain. I can move it in all directions so I don’t think I broke it. Nerve damage??
Since you have mentioned that you are able to move your arm in all directions without any major pain or restriction, most likely it is not a fracture. But it can't be said conclusively without an x-ray. I would advise you to observe the area and if there is swelling or your pain increases in severity get yourself checked by a physician. Whether there is any nerve damage or not cannot be predicted so early.
For now, you should keep on icing the area to reduce pain and inflammation. Take an over the counter painkiller like Advil to reduce pain. If the numbness and tingling sensation does not reduce, then get yourself checked by an orthopedic. He may advise you an MRI of the shoulder to determine whether there is nerve injury or not.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma.amman
