How Can Muscle Strain On The Left Side Of The Body Be Treated?

My mother was diagnosed with a muscle strain in her left side by her pcp. She was prescribed a pain Med and a muscle relaxer. She wants to know if there is anything else she can do to ease the pain? She saw her kidney doctor this week and he stated that her kidney is fine and he thought she had a strained muscle.
