How Can Muscle Ache In The Pelvis Be Treated?

I am 65 years old. I don t get much exercise. I mowed the lawn with an electric mower two days ago and the muscles on front part of my pelvic area are sore like I did 50 sit ups. I can hardly stand up and walk. It is not a sharp pain, but dull like. Why in old age does my muscles hurt with so little exercise. What can I do to keep my muscles from hurting?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I understand your concern. The pain in the muscles after some strenuous activity comes from the accumulation of lactic acid inside the muscles.
As you age, the muscles fibers get more lax and the muscles' ability to get more oxygen and rid of the lactic acid is reduced. Light exercises and regular moderate physical activity improves ability of the muscles to get oxygen and get rid of lactic acid which is the byproduct of the muscles metabolism in the absence of oxygen.
I hope this helps.
All the best
