Hi,

It is possible for antiepileptic drugs to cause cognitive impairment.

In such cases, lowering the doses, or starting a new antiepileptic drug with fewer long-term adverse effects (Levetiracetam for example) may be necessary.

Juvenile seizures tend to diminish as the children grow, so, stopping gradually antiepileptic drugs is a possibility too.

However, intermittent EEG and Neurologist's opinion are necessary to stop antiepileptic drugs.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
