How Can Mallet Finger Be Treated?

I have been diagnosed with Mallet Finger (making my bed) on 11/11 went to urgent care. I spoke to my primary and she is has referred me to hand specialist. I can t get an appointment until 12/5. I have been taking Aleve for moderate discomfort. Urgent Care placed a splint and wrapped it. I have it on all day and night. I take it off twice a day to wash my hand really good and to get some air ( maybe 15 minutes). Anything else I should do to help the healing process until I see the ortho Dr?
