How Can Leg Cramps Be Treated?

I have calf cramps at night, one leg, left; get up and walk it off; calf still hurts and feels about to cramp. I have type 2 diabetes since age 40, was 165 lbs. But lost it through walking. Can t get my regular medication, duloxetine, til Jan 1. (60 mg 2x day). Have been taking it for 4 yrs for depression but it works like magic for severe neuropathy in feet and hand (Lyrica SUCKED, severe difficulty swallowing). Female; 65; 114 lbs. my A1c is 8.3 ( I know not good). Saw doc nov 23. Got flu shot. She represcribed duloxetine but can t afford it til Jan 1. (Medicare SNAFU.) Anything I can do for myself til I can get it? Also have bad head cold right now, so being a bit lazy last week or so. Was walking every other day or so 1-2 miles. But stopped Month ago. Also take glyburide and metformin. Is it ok to take magnesium supplement for cramps? Will it help? Help! Thank you

hi mam,i’m really impressed with your detailed history giving which is desired by every doctor.thanks a lot for easing my work.coming to your problem, for leg cramps, most of my patients (diabetics with leg cramps)reported promising results with the use of Neuractin forte capsules twice daily for at least 3 months.advantage of this is that with prolonged use,you can completely get rid of your cramps and also there are no reported side effects.so,you can take it safely.let me mention even the ingredients of the drug such that if the same brand is not available, you can go for others with same composition :
1)alpha lipoid acid
2)biotin
3)chromium
4)frolic acid,inositol,mecobalamine,zinc,selenium

magnesium, which was thought to be effective for leg cramps is now proved to be not so.here are a few home remedial measures to prevent and treat cramps
1)avoid dehydration
2)hamstring stretching exercises are advised.static cycling can also be done
3)massaging the cramped muscle with warm water or letting the warm shower on cramping muscle also helps relieve pain.
regarding duloxetine,it’s better to procure it even after delay as change of medication may sometimes worsen the symptoms or may take some time to show its effect.moreover, psychiatrist consultation is a must before you change medication for depression.hope my answer would be helpful and clears your doubts.any further queries, please let me know.its my pleasure to be of any help to you.thank you.take care.bye.
