How Can Kyphosis Be Treated?

My brother, age 75 has acute humped back and he's tried physically therapy and the chiropractor said the spine can't be changed as it's calcified or some such reason. His girlfriend wants him to see a doctor, but all they've done before is have him go to physcial therapist for short periods of time. He has not gotten better. He sits a lot and reads mail so I suspect this affected him in the first place. He also has MCD. Is it worth seeing a doctor?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is worth seeing a doctor to prevent the condition from getting worse. Kyphosis is often caused by osteoporosis and if that is the case then the osteoporosis could be treated to keep the kyphosis from getting worse.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
