How Can Itchy Fungal Skin Infection Be Treated?

My husband has diabetics, and now he has a fungus on his skin in the form of round spots that spread and the itching is awful. The Dr. gave him pill that you take one every three days, does no help with the itching and nothing is going away. I do not know what to do.
