How Can Insomnia, Headache And Dizziness Be Treated While Taking Wellbutrin For Anxiety?

About three weeks ago, I started having difficulty sleeping even though I was taking .5mg of Clonazepam. I have been taking this for several months and was not having issues. I also have 225mg of Welbrupion for anxiety. I tried taking 1mg of the Clonazepam and it didn t work just made me feel awful in the morning. Went to the Dr a week ago and he switched me to 100mg of Trazadone. I have taken this medication for years previously (only .25 mg At that time). I started taking .5mg (didn t work), tried 100mg and I felt drugged up really bad for a couple of days. I stopped taking it completely e days ago. Still can t sleep! Don t feel drugged. Major nervousness, back or front of head headaches, dizziness. Can t seem to get my brain to shut off or my body to relax. Also have sinus issues with excess mucus. This is affecting my ability to focus and my day to day activities. What should I do?

1. As you are a diagnosed case thus remain under regular supervision of your Psychiatrist, since he must be knowing the adverse drug reaction to the drug prescribed and how to alleviate the symptoms arising from them, regarding sinus issue consult an ENT physician for relevant examination and investigation, I at most can help you with prophylactic aspect of Insomnia

i. drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue coordination and visual disturbances are documented side effects of clonazepam [which made you awful in the morning], whereas insomnia, sinusitis, anxiety, headache, nervousness are documented side effects of welbrupion [present], so it could be because of the ADR [adverse drug reaction] of the medicine so kindly consult your attending physician for safer alternatives.

2. It could be GAD [generalized anxiety disorder] or independent Insomnia, so till one of them is excluded, one may follow the preventive Aspect.

1. avoid caffeine found in coffee, tea, chocolate, cola, and some pain relievers
PS. [four to six hours before bedtime.]

2. quiet, dark, and cool environment can help promote sound sleep.
PS. [Use heavy curtains, or an eye mask to block light, and also keeping computers, TVs, and other work materials out of the room will help promote mental bonding between your bedroom and sleep]

3. Avoid stressful, stimulating activities like doing work, discussing emotional issues.
PS. Physically and psychologically stressful activities can cause the body to secrete the stress hormone cortisol, which is associated with increasing alertness.

4. take dinner 2-3 hours before bedtime and avoid foods that cause indigestion. [spicy-heavy- junk food]

5. avoid afternoon napping to prevent late night awakening [ between 2-3 pm is ideal, but that too sitting on a chair while head resting on table]

6. looking at clock in your bedroom, [when you are trying to fall asleep] can actually increase stress, making it harder to fall asleep. Turn your clock’s face away from you.

7. Principle is to have well-balanced diet with more of proteins and more Calories with exercise, take more of cereals, legumes, daal egg, and eat fresh fruits regularly with sweet pulp like (banana, mango, chickoos, grapes)

8. take banana, black grapes, orange, spinach, ginger, tomatoes, curd, take diet rich in vitamin C (Citrus fruits) and vitamin E (sunflower seeds, almonds, apricots, peanuts) which are rich in antioxidants

9. Lemon juice mixed with sugar in a glass of water helps release stress removing hormones from the body and bring the mind to peace/rest.

PS. Since drug therapy is generally only a palliative treatment, we have to look at cognitive and behavioral strategies and especially nutritional strategies. I do recommend behavioral practice, whether it’s yoga or meditation.
