How Can Herpes Simplex Be Treated?

I have herpes simplex and have been getting a rash on my upper left arm for many years; a dermatologist prescribed famiciclovir 500mg, suggested I take 3 tablets at the onset (tingling) ; I already have a rash on my left arm and wonder whether taking the famiciclovir would help at this point, or shall I wait till another episode occurs and take the famiciclovir at an early stage. I am about to travel and don t want to risk any side effects from the medication.Thank you.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You can take Famciclovir drug if the rash has just started.

To reduce the duration of the healing process, Famciclovir is a safe medicine, and there is no issue with traveling while on it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal
