How Can Hepatitis C Transmission Be Prevented?

On 2010, I was treated and cured from Hep C. Now, I met a nice man and have been dating for 2 months (no sex, just starting as friends) and told about it. Should have I? What if he fears of kissing me? We haven t, yet. What would you recommend? I believe in safe sex, always did but I contracted the disease while married years ago (2009). Thank you for your help.

Hello,

Hepatitis can be transmitted through:
1. Intravenous Drug Use
2. Transfusion of blood and blood products
3. Occupational exposure to blood (primarily during contaminated needle stick injuries)
4. Sexual transmission
5. Vertical transmission (from mother to child)

Transmission occurs by blood-to-blood contact. Casual contact such as hugging, kissing, and holding hands are safe activities for people with HCV (Unless both of you have cuts in your mouth).

The situation for hepatitis C is much different than it is for hepatitis B, which is much more likely to be transmitted sexually. So, it is better to use condom or barrier method et cetera while intercourses.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
