How Can Hepatitis C Infection Be Treated?

Hello and Goodmorning, I Have A Real Problem that I Could Definetly Use Some Of Your advice on: My Fianci when he was in his 20 s he was shot, Almost died, needed a blood transfusion, got one. But Back Then They Did NOT Check Blood For Hepatits. Well Needless to Say, He Contracted Hep C from That Transfusion. He is now 56 years Old and He was Going to try the newer Hep C Treatment,- Because about 5 years ago he did the Pegasus and Interferion Hep C Treatment. Which He Completed,Although was Sick As A Dog. :( :( Well Treatment DIDNT Work. and Then Although Always Still Employed, The Companies Never Offered Health Care. and He Could Not Afford It Realistically.-Then ObamaCare Came Along -(8 THANK GOD !!! ) so he ended Up getting ambetter Thru That Just This Year. Well Since July, and Having to pick new doctors to try to get the Hep C treatment, and got the run around for several months between all the doc s and tests and ct scans, mri s and Such. He Had to do some imaging for His Gastrointologist, and RIGHT B4 getting Started on the treatment, we went he got the mri/ct and we were told about a few Months Later.-(* Which We Started this in july, & as U know , its now dec. anyways we WERE TOLD ONE WEEK THAT Now He Has Cirrois of the liver -(Stage 4*), then When the Last Images WERE TAKEN & REVIEWED, That Stage 4 Cirrosis that we had JUST been told a week or 2 Ago from Same Dr. office that now its Liver Cancer (Primary) - *** ALSO: hE hAS dIABETIES 2 - ( FOR @ Least the last 10 yrs or so ) So Now what wa Suggested is 3 Different things Chemoembolazation is The Treatment he got yESTERDAY Morning, and now seeing him after treatment, HE IS SICKER than A dog,Throwing Up FIERCLY. In A Week Is When They Want to Inject Beads Into His Main Femar Artery , with a Cathater Sorta Like What they did 2 Day. But He Got An Angiogram 2 Day with Some Radioactive Material That Is Only Suppose to Map It Out for the chemoembolization in A Week. But I Am Wondering IF He Should Even Do It. Seeing How VERY Sick and uncomfortable he is ??? and b4this treatment it was Already Becoming Increasingly MORE Difficult for me to get him to eat. But Now, I Believe it is going to be ALOT Harder. As ( since Treatment) I can Barely Even get him 2 Drink ANY Fluids..... They Decided To Keep Him At Hospital Yesterday, Because Of The Fear He Could Quite Possibly Break open the place Where H Was Just Stabbed In The Groin...... PLEASE

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Hepatitis C infection is treated with antiviral medications intended to clear the virus from your body. The goal of treatment is to have no hepatitis C virus detected in your body at least 12 weeks after you complete treatment. If you have developed serious complications from chronic hepatitis C infection, liver transplantation may be an option.
Hope the information provided helps.

All the best.
Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran. S.
