Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have hepatitis c , have had it for ten years recently while seeking treatment was asked if I had any history of liver disease and was told that my last blood work 3 years ago showed some problem with my liver besides the hepatitis and that I had something in the blood work that showed disease in my liver.
Hi and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have read your question and here is my advice.
Hepatitis C can damage the liver, and yes this can be projected by blood tests. However, Hepatitis C can be treated effectively these days. For that we need to have evidence if the virus is yet in our blood or not, and we check this by getting a simple test that is Hepatitis C serology if that is positive we do a PCR, if its positive as well then we can treat the virus with a 3 months of antiviral drugs.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman
