How Can Hepatitis B Infection Be Prevented?

My son does not have the hep b vaccination but has been exposed to a contaminated needle a few days ago. He is six years old and the needle was at least three weeks old before he was scratched with it by his 2 year old sister. We do not know the health of the person who used this needlebut it was probably a druggie. Where can i find information on what to do? All doctors say go to the emergency room.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Hepvirus does not survive long on needle. So the chances for transmission is low. However complete his vaccination at the earliest to prevent deleterious events.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
