i m having gallstone attacks about every 3 or 4 months. I ve been on a low sat fat diet and its working well, but I just had gallbladder attack yesterday that lasted for about 24 hours. Worst pain I ve ever experienced. I don t have insurance. Any suggestions to alleviate the pain, other then surgery..
Firstly it must be diagnosed if you are having acute cholecystitis, or a gall stone colic. Blood investigations including complete blood count, liver function tests and an abdominal ultrasound examination will diagnose the ailment you have. If it is acute cholecystitis, you would require hospital admission, intravenous antibiotics and supportive therapy till the acute GB inflammation resolves completely. After this, to prevent recurrence, in either case, you would have to undergo removal of the gall bladder with the stones with a laparoscopic technique. Open surgery can also be done, however the time taken for complete healing and normalcy is longer.
