How Can Frequent Cough In An Infant Be Treated?

My 1 year old daughter (her weight 9.8 kg) is having cough for more than a month after a day of fever which started on 1st may(initially it was throat infection). She is not having frequent cough.she s very much normal when she s awake. She coughs continuously in the sleep.or as soon as she wakes or sometimes after taking milk in the sleep. Sometimes she coughs n vomits the mucus which is white or clear in color. Doctor has prescribed montair lc kid syrup for 10 days dosage s 5 ml. Is it ok to give this syrup. I am seeing this syrup s only for the kids who are above 2 yrs.
