Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. I have a grain of rice stuck in the windpipe just under the epiglottis and it has been there for at least two days. I tried coughing it out but it would not work. The grain of rice would not go down the trachea nor would it come out of the windpipe back to my mouth. What should I do? Will it cause problems in the future if I do not get it out?
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
Well, first, if there are breathing difficulties or cough then you need to see ENT doctor as soon as possible. However, if this last for few days and there are no such symptoms then this is probably in esophagus stucked and you should drink fluids and eat bread. This may help to push it down, If there wont be success then gastroscopy should be done to remove it or push it. ALso, this should not cause serious issues in future since i dont think this is in respiratory tract so you should not be worried about this.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time. Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
