How can elevated blood pressure levels be treated?

STARTING A YEAR AND HALF AGO I WAS PRESCRIBED A 10 MG DOSAGE OF LISINOPRL,THEN 20 AND PRESENTLY ON 40. UPON ENTERING DR. OFFICE WITH NO WAITING TIME MY B.P. IS ELEVATED. ( 160/90) OR HIGHER. DURING THE DAY I USE AN OTC MONITOR AND MY BP IS NORMAL . I THINK I HAVE WH. COAT SYN. WHAT DO YOU THINK ? 76yr year old male in pretty good health and normal familial conditions thanks

Please check if any of these conditions are present, If yes eliminate them:
- Inadequate rest period before measuring BP or in between two measurements. exercise within 30 minutes before blood pressure measurement also affect the reading.
- Body position- Crossing legs, talking, etc. can give false reading.
- Muscle tension while measuring BP (not keeping your arm relaxed)
- Medications
- Stimuli such as food, alcohol, caffeine, nicotine.

Assuming that you and your physician are following all precautions to avoid error in BP reading. You might be showing white coat effect.The best way to know and avoid it is to measure your BP at home, preferably with/ by a person you comfortable with.
And don't forget to inform your physician about your readings, so that your medications can be adjusted accordingly.
