Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Eczema is a condition where patches of skin become inflamed, itchy, red, cracked and rough.
There is no specific cause for eczema. But it is believed to develop due to a combination of hereditary (genetic) and environmental factors.
There is no cure for eczema. It can be controlled effectively.
Treatment for the condition aims to heal the affected skin and prevent flaring of the symptoms.
The following things would be useful in managing eczema effectively:
1. Taking regular warm baths.
2. Applying moisturizer soon after bathing and moisturizing every day.
3. Wearing soft cotton fabrics and avoiding rough, scratchy fibers and tight-fitting clothing.
4. Using mild soap or medicated soap cleanser.
5. Keeping fingernails short to prevent scratching from breaking skin.
6. Application of topical corticosteroid creams and ointments over the affected area such as hydrocortisone 1%.
7. Antihistamines medications to be taken during bedtime to reduce the risk of night-time scratching.
Gradually, you should be able to overcome the problem.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best and wish you good health.
Regards,
Dr.Ashakiran.S.
