How Can Earache Be Treated?

I was having ear pain the past couple of days starting Wednesday evening. Yesterday I went to the doctor with severe ear pain and was diagnosed with an ear infection. I was subscribed amoxacillin. Last night the pain was excrutiating and I woke up this morning to dried up blood on my pillow case and inside my ear. Is this normal for an ear infection or something more serious?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Otitis media can lead to bleeding as well. So acute bulging tympanic membrane should be looked for. Otoscopy ear examination needed. Ear drops also can be prescribed, like ofloxacin. If ear canal shows swelling then glycerine soaked cotton can be placed, in the ear. For examination, otorhinolaryngologist should be consulted and get a prescription.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
