Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Dysphagia, xerostomia related to radiation for submandibular squamous cell carcinoma. Now build up of mucus like substance caught in windpipe make gurgling breathe and speech sounds. Only cleared by coughing up sputum then expel by spit of swallow. 5 years post cancer!
It looks like Xerostomia is the cause of Dysphagia and excessive mucous is die to inflammation in throat and reduced watery content of saliva. So my suggestion is to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated. For now you can chew sugar free chewing gum. Drink plenty of water. Use artificial saliva drops. Do warm saline gargles. You can also use specialized mouthwash like Biotene mouthwash as it is suitable for dry mouth.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
