How Can Diarrhea In An Infant Be Treated?

Hello doctor My daughter is 20 months old, having loose motions yellow green in colour yesterday but now it s light green in colour and like mucous. Advice me medicine. I have given her bio combination 8 or for diarrhoea homeopathy medicine as she generally vomit allopathy medicine. But now ineed allopathy medicine to treat her asap. Kindly help me.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.



Green color stool can be normal or can be indication of hypermotile bowel. Just give child WHO ORS. Dissolve it well as per instruction (usually 1 packet in one liter water). If child vomits you can give antimetic like Ondansetron. Give syrup Zinc once a day for 15 days. Keep watch on activity of child and urine output. If you fill it's worsening visit your pediatrician. Generally children have diarrhea due to viral cause.

90 percent times only symptomatic treatment and hydration is needed.
