How Can Diabetic Encephalopathy Be Best Treated?

What are some of the treatment modalities for a patient with diabetic encephalopathy? How can I best care for someone with this condition? I m curious to know because I took care of a patient (I m a RN on medical unit) with this diagnosis and had no idea how I could best care for him.

welcome to hcm,
short answer he needs adequate fluids which is the main line of treatment. along with fluids insulin is also injected through iv route.
detailed answer:
it is because of high blood sugar levels, make damage to the brain cells. and ketones are accumulated
complete lack of insulin will make the fats to brak down to form ketones. accumulation of ketones in the blood causes acidosis. the patient will be deeply dehydrated and breathing rapidly and deeply called as kussmals breathing.
nursing care starts from hydrating the dehyrated patient constant checking his acid levels by atrial blood gas. insulin injections at regular interval at correct doses. frequent measuring of his consiousness and blood sugar levels. as the patient is in encephalopathy. with insulin injections he can go for hypoglycemia also. so needed close monitoring of vitals and consiousness.
