How Can Depression Along With High Blood Pressure Be Treated?

My husband is on medications for highblood pressure and they put him on dioxidine for depression also. In december he had a minor stroke and blood pressure remains high. since he has been home first of January he has been extremely tired and hard to wake up during day. yesterday was the first real day I forced him up to go to doctors appointments. During the appointments he was hard to what seemed like waking him up and to hold conversations. Morning he was fine and than about 1 fell asleep I woke him around 4 to get him to appointment. It was hard to get him up and spent most of his time with eyes were closed and seemed like it was difficult for him to open eyes and respond and when he did it was difficult for him to talk and to be understood. He just says he is tired and that he is a little confused. We got home and he went straight to bed and when he woke up this morning he was himself and was talking about the good day he had yesterday yes our morning was pleasant and he was awake and talking but I responded good? He said he a nice morning with me before since I am usually am at work and decided to stay home. I said what about the afternoon and he responded I know I fell asleep. I said what about at the doctors office and he said we didn t go to the office and that he didn t remember. I reflected on the events and he said I vaguely remember but I thought that was a dream because I remember teaching little kids and they were young like 6 years old and I felt like I was the same height and was confused by that. Could there be such a thing as sleepwalking and having no recollection of events from medicine becuase trying to get him to come around and answer questions was alot like trying to wake him from a sound sleep and never really woke up.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

What drug your husband is taking for High BP and for how long?

According to my knowledge, the medicine you have mentioned that is 'Dioxidine' is not for depression but it is an antibacterial.

Side effects of Dioxidine may cause emotional lability and depression in some person.

If you are not sure about your husband's BP medicine, I suggest T.Telmisartan. Consult your physician for prescription.

You can consult a Psychiatrist regarding his depression for more details.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Indhu Priyadharshini
