How Can Cystic Fibrosis Be Treated?

My son has cystic fibrosis and he is borderline CF diabetes but that s the good news. A year and half ago he was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism then in the form of Graves Disease. They could not regulate it so then opted to do an ablation. Prior to the ablation they did a special ultra sound which identified nodule(s) in his Thyroid. They then did a needle biopsy which proved malignant. He had a thyroidectomy which normally entails a 3 to 4 day stay but his was 15 as they could never regulate his calcium not matter how much IV and oral calcium he was given. When he left the hospital he was only having 60 something pills a day. I know if you get cancer thyroid is one of the better ones to get. He then was supposed to have radio-active iodine during his semester break but things got screwed up and could not be scheduled. A special CT ultra sound they did schedule indicated probably nodules now in his lungs. They then expedited is radio-active iodine to his semester break this past March. He now has experiences excessive sweating. I know in the scheme of things this seems minute but it s just one more thing he has to deal with......which is also causing acne on his back and face. I need help and direction for my son. Thank you.

Hello,

As studies/researchers have postulated that because an Iodine deficiency does occur in people suffering from CF, thus hypothyroidism is more of a concern in people suffering from CF, thus because your son is having hyperthyroidism thus it could be an independent pathology arising from thyroid itself or secondary to some other [hidden] condition.

As the condition [CF] is restrictive, thus apart from preventive [pneumococcal vaccine] and supportive care he has to be under regular supervision/guidance of a pulmonologist, gastroenterologist, physiotherapist, nutritionist, pediatrician, Primary Care Provider (PCP), and respiratory therapist.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
