How Can Cough And Sore Throat Be Treated?

I have been sick for a week. It started with a cough and sore throat. The coughing got worse, especially at night. I was choking on flem or moucus. I went to my dr, and he said I had inflammation in my throat, but he was more concerned about my tachycardia, which was worse. My pulse was 118. He gave me Cipro. The past three days, I have loud rattling when I breathe, and my cough is still making me choke. My co-worker was just diagnosed with pneumonia, but I don t assume anything. I am very weak, no appetite, never had a fever, never had chills.what is your opinion?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Sore throat with coughing is suggestive of bacterial infection. Did you have completed the course of Ciprofloxacin?

It is because of the antibiotics, you did not have fever.

Other concern is, if cough is more than 2 weeks and along with it you have decreased appetite is raising probability of pulmonary tuberculosis. So, please go for sputum smear examination.

Till then, you can try Azithromycin drug daily 3 to 5 day’s course. Along with it, do salt water gargling. Avoid cold beverages and food.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Hiren Hirpara
