Cold and cough in a toddler since 15-20 days are pointing towards poor immunity of body and severe respiratory tract infection. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult pediatrician once without any delay.Doctor may order blood test , throat swab test and should get an x ray of the chest for further treatment. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics (amoxicillin or penicillin) at least for 10 days along with decongestants and mucolytic agents. Steam inhalation is very effective for you. For now do warm saline rinses and take rest. Take expectorants. Sodium cromoglycate is effective to prevent infection. You should avoid hot, sharp and spicy foods. .
