How Can Chronic Vomiting And Diarrhea Be Treated?

My wife is 75 years old and has been vomiting and having diarea two and three times a day since November third. Lost eighteen pounds. Three Docters have been unable to find the problem. Cat scans X-rays and exam of her sromach showed slight irritation in her stomach and a slight narrowing of esophagus. 20mg Omeprazole for thirty days now and she is no better. What should I be asking her Gastoenterologist now? Note: My wife is in the eighth year of treatment for frontotemporal dementia with the associated medications and treatment for high blood pressure.

Hello! Welcome to HCM!

Your wife may be suffering from gastritis with gastroesophasial reflux disease and irritable bowel syndrome. life style management like bland and balanced diet rich in fibre, regular physical exercise and some mental relaxation techniques like yoga and meditation may be beneficial. Pharmacological management with proton pump inhibitor like Omerazol (already prescribed), antispasmodic like Dicyclomine, probiotics like Lactic Acid Bacilli and some antidepressants may be given after consulting a gastroenterologist.

Take care
