How Can Chronic Edema On The Body Be Treated?

My mom has badly weeping edema, head to toe. Can t see cardiologist till next week. A nurse says she s not in heart failure but mom disagrees. We know her blood pressure meds need to be changed to probably a higher diuretic dose. Any suggestions to help her cope until dr appt?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Chronic edema on the body could be due to the following causes:
1. congestive heart failure
2. hypoproteinemia (low proteins in plasma)
3. renal disorders
It would be better she is hospitalized and treated by evaluating underlying cause. If not attended to properly, it may lead to damage to vital organs such as cardiac tissue and kidneys.
Kindly get her evaluated at the earliest.
Hope the information provided helps.
All the best.
Regards,
Dr.Ashakiran.S.,
