How can chronic cough and shortness of breath be treated?

I recently recovered from a cold, however I retained a cough and a difficulty with catching my breath when climbing stairs. Probably bronchitis. I am a 67 year old male who has been a runner for the last 35 years, so it is frustrating to be unable to even jog, and the bronchitis disturbs my normal sleep. Any suggestions on treatment ( condition has persisted for about 6 weeks, with some swelling in my feet).

Thanks for your query on HCM

"As" per your clinical history is concerned please follow like this -

1)Do a clinical examination by your treating Doctor[pulmonologist] and to confirm it do few investigations [CBC with differential, Chest X-ray, and sputum culture]

2)Discuss about prescribed medications like [antibiotics and cough syrup] and add other medications as per investigation reports.

Do follow lifestyle modifications like this -:

1)Try to avoid cigarette smoke. Cigarette smoke increases your risk of chronic bronchitis.

2)Get vaccinated for flu and pneumonia.

3)Try to wash your hands. To reduce your risk of catching a viral infection, wash your hands frequently and get in the habit of using hand sanitizers.

4)Wear a surgical mask when facing crowds.

Hope that helps
