How Can Chronic Backache Be Treated?

Hi, I have chronic back pain that I ve been living with for years, and it s been getting progressively worse. Its in my lower back, around the tail bone area. I ve seen a doctor about the pain and gotten X-rays that showed I have slight scoliosis but it shouldn t be causing pain. I saw a chiropractor for a couple weeks as well but that was no relief. Nothing over the counter offers any pain relief- I just don t know what to do.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You need to visit an orthopedics & get CT, X-ray & MRI done. Scoliosis has a tendency to get worse with time if left untreated. You may need surgery to reduce the degree of the spinal curve. Muscle relaxants & topical pain relievers work well. You can take Naproxen, NSAIDS or ibuprofen for pain. It can be treated with medication, observation, braces or surgery. Get treated for complications will lead to infection, pain or even nerve damage.Take care.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I reviewed your query and here is my answer.
Does your back pain radiate to your thighs or legs or any other area? Does your occupation involves activities for which you need frequent bending or like sitting forward? Do you feel numbness or parasthesia along with pain in legs? You need a proper examination and to see an orthopedic specialist. But till that, try to sleep or lie down on hard and smooth surfaces. Avoid activities which involve frequent bending. Sitting on your back supported by chair back or pillow. And use muscle relaxant like tinazidine as well.
Hope i answered your question. Feel free to ask if you need further assistance. Thanks.
