How Can Cellulitis On The Feet And Heels Be Treated?

I was diagnosed with Cellulitus on the bottom of my feet and heels 10 days after a pedicure. The soles of my feet were red and painful for about 5 days before it got to the point that I could not bare weight on my left foot. The pain began to travel up my calf. Checked for DVT- was negative. I have been on Keflex 2000mg/day for close to 5 days now. Had a shot of Rocephin 2 days into treatment. The redness has decreased on both feet but the left foot is still swollen and there are areas on the foot that are hardened, red and painful. Where should the healing process be at on my last day of antibiotics - 2 days from now. If it is still present will it be necessary for more antibiotics? Just walking very short distances causes very bad burning and throbbing pain throughout the foot. How long should this pain last? Very difficult to walk right now.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your description it seems like infection is subsiding. You can extend the course of antibiotics for few more days till complete recovery. If the redness is decreasing with the present antibiotic, no need to change the antibiotic and you can continue them. The pain and discomfort last for few more especially in cellulitis of heals and sole. You can take anti inflammatory drugs like seratiopeptidase for faster recovery. Analgesics like ibuprofen or Diclofenac can be taken for pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
