How Can Catatonia While Suffering From Autism Be Treated?
My 15 year old son was diagnosed with Cataonia related to Autism Spectrum disorder in May 2016. The psychiatrist at the hospital last May recommended 1 miligram three times per day of Ativan, aka lorezapam. Our son was on the medicine described until January of this year when his symptoms began to get worse, and now the Psychiatrist has increased the dosage to 8 miligrams per day. Our son is not getting better. Is there another medicine we can try to help cure him of this horrible condition, or is no medicine the right answer? Please help
Hello, Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic for your health concern
Ativan is a good pharmacological treatment for catatonia. Continue ativan as prescribed. Of ativan does not seem to help in next few days, then other medications like carbamazepine can be tried. If medications fail to help, electroconvulsive therapy is a final option.
