How Can Carotid Artery Disease Be Treated?

I have 95% blockage in left carotid. Some symptoms are minor dizziness, CONSTANT heartbeat in left ear. Velocity ratio: S=3.59; D=6.17 cannot get VA off their ass for outside referral. How do I get a referral to a Doctor in Springfield, MO, such as Jon Reese

Hi,

I understand your concern and would explain that surgery (endarterectomy) or carotid stenting could help lower the risk for future stroke.

This is a high degree blockage and its management should be done as soon as possible.

In the meantime, I would recommend taking daily baby aspirin and clopidogrel (dual antiplatelet therapy) and high doses of statins to help prevent possible occlusion.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka,
Cardiologist
