How Can Carotid Arteries Be Treated?

I have a 50% blockage in my right carotid artery. This scares me. I am told that as a 61 yr. old, this is normal accumulation. My cholesterol is not high (out of range)...172 Cardiologist prescribed Rosuvastatin (Crestor) 10 mg. I don t like taking any medication not necessary. I not see that a couple of my medications may be interacting. I am concerned about when I am supposed to take meds and which ones should be taken at different times in the day so they can do their job. I take Nexium, Atenolol, Levothyroxine, Super B, and 80 mg. Bayer aspirin. Now I have been told to begin Rosuvastatin. Please help me sort this out. My family Dr. is on vacation.

Hi,

Such blockages in blood vessels are caused by aging of blood vessels by thickening of theirs walls (atherosclerosis) & lipid deposits on their walls.

Such deposits are seen as the age grows but can be managed with improved lifestyle, diet, exercise, stopping smoking & statin drugs. Nexium is for managing gastric reflux and needs to be taken as directed by the physician (once or twice a day).

Rosuvastatin is medicine for lipid control and has been given to you in moderate dosage for preventive purpose. It is to be taken once a day. Here more stress is to be given on lifestyle changes.

Both the drugs have moderate possibility of affecting liver, kidney or muscles so it is better to space them away (at least 4-6 hours apart) to avoid any interaction.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks.
