How Can Bruising On The Elbow Due To An Injury Be Treated?

My mother in law is 91, on Coumadin for a fib and has a pacemaker. She bumped her left lateral elbow on a door frame about 48 hours ago. There was initially no evidence of injury. This morning there was a grapefruit sized lump at the site and upper forearm bruising over it and all around it. Ice was applied. The lump is decreasing in size but the bruising is spreading and her lower arm looks terrible. Can she wait for it to subside? There is no pain, tingling, tenderness.
