Thanks for contacting with your health concern
1. Although sphincterectomy is an effective treatment for
anal fissure but carries the risk of 'incontinence' [same could be the case with you].
2. since the problem is chronic thus you may contact your attending surgeon or PCP for bowel training,
pelvic floor exercise and biofeedback therapy, I at most can provide with some practical tips to manage incontinence:
i. you may wear disposable underwear or absorbent pants inserted inside the underwear.
ii. use the toilet before leaving home.
iii. since eating tends to trigger
peristalsis and increases the likelihood that person will pass gas/bowel movement thus avoid eating in restaurants or at social gatherings or you may take anti-diarrheal medications before eating.
iv. use fecal deodorants which can reduce the smell of gas/stool.
v. keep a record of public restrooms [in advance]
vi. Since the skin around the anus is delicate, change the soiled underwear as soon as possible and keep the anal area dry.
vii. maintain a food diary to help identify foods which can cause
fecal incontinence.
