Hi, I am over 60, weigh 130 and am about to start med to prevent more bone loss. The doctor says gaining 50 lbs. would be helpful. I ve researched to some extent and would like your suggestions on how to improve hip density and further deterioration overall. Thank you.

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
This is obviously osteoporosis and there are specific measures and medications used for the treatment. Most common is Alendronat or FOsamax which are effective for most cases. Also, you should have calcium rich food or calcium supplements. Hormones, such as estrogen, and some hormone-like medications approved for preventing and treating osteoporosis, such as raloxifene (Evista), also play a role in osteoporosis treatment and development. At last, you should move and exercise regularly and avoid smoking and alcohol which are proven to worsen bone calcification.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
