How Can Balanitis Be Treated?

I think I may have balantis... I have some redness on the head, but not a lot. There also has been some smelly discharge coming from my penis as well. Will I need to see a doctor about this? Because it is embarrassing and would like to avoid it if I could

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Your symptoms could be due to balanitis (fungal infection, excessive use, chemical cosmetics). Contact dermatitis, STDs. I would suggest to consult dermatologist for examination, STD screening test, urethral swab test and take proper treatment. Following treatment will help you:

Apply Bacitracin and candid ointment. Avoid sweats in affected area and maintain proper hygiene. Use antibacterial soap. Tablet Doxycycline cover the all the possible infection. Tablet Fluconazole can be used for fungal infection. Wear pure cotton loose inner. So meet the dermatologist to share my idea and take prescribed drugs.

Hope this may help you. Contact further if follow up needed.

Best regards,
Dr. Sagar
